A writer, performer and actress, Patricia Foster is renowned for her intricately, layered poetry and short fiction and its poignant take on life – the unexpected and the epiphanies. Her emotive writing, sincere narrative and compelling performances have moved audiences internationally.

 Patricia is a member of the writers’ collective ‘Malika’s Kitchen’. She is also a design graduate, workshop facilitator, educator and African dancer and is presently developing monologues and scripts for film. As an actress, she has received training at the ArtsEd School of Acting, with Nitro and completed the ‘Adventures In Space’ course with ‘Pants On Fire’ physical theatre company. She currently appears in a short film, ‘The Big Band’, for ‘The Stephen Lawrence Project’ as an African dancer and secured a leading role in the feature length film ‘ID: NOIR’. 2003 marked her debut theatre appearance in the play ‘Coats’.

 Patricia’s work appears in the anthologies ‘Flowers on a Shoe String’, ‘The Tall Lighthouse Review’, ‘Handmade Fire’ (Malika’s Kitchen [Chicago] Anthology), Handmade Fire Vol2 (Malika’s Kitchen [London] Anthology) and Brown Eyes: A Selection of Creative Expressions by Black and Mixed Race Women. She has performed live on ‘A Love Supreme Broadcasts Poetry’ Radio 100 in Amsterdam, ‘Word for Word’ and ‘The Joanne Goode Show’ for BBC London 94.9 FM, BBC Three Counties Radio and Fusion FM. She has participated as a poet-judge at the ‘Charles Edward Brook’ School slam. Patricia was also host and facilitator of the 2003 Black History Month ‘Poetry Jam with Open Mic’ at Greenwich University.

 In February 2004, Patricia’s first short play, ‘La Capisano’ was performed at the Chelsea Theatre new writers showcase. In autumn 2004, she was a finalist in the ‘European Social Forum’ Slam. She has also performed on Sky channel London TV and is currently working towards her first collection. With The Art of Words poetry collective: she has supported singer Martine Girault’s 2005 ‘Intimate’ Tour and is currently working on a live album of spoken word and music, produced by Ray Hayden (Opaz Studios). In 2006, Patricia appeared in Jonzi-D’s Hip-Hip Theatre showcase ‘The Surgery’ at Lillian Baylis Theatre as poet & hIp-Hop dancer.

Performances abroad

Patricia has appeared at the Bowery Poetry Club, New York. In 2002, she featured as an international poet at ‘Palabras’, Club Paradiso and ‘Breathing Bijlmer’, O-Nivo Grand Café – both in Amsterdam. In 2004 she also featured at ‘the Open Stanza’ as well as Palabras again in Amsterdam. Autumn 2004 she participated in the ‘Dutch Connection Tour’; a poetry tour of The Netherlands and the UK. In October 2004, she toured Chicago with the writers’ collective ‘Malika’s Kitchen’. In November 2004 she was a featured writer at the Lezersfest International Poetry Slam, Rotterdam.
